Giant sidewalk sunflowers in full bloom

These giant sidewalk sunflowers are in full bloom and towering over the pedestrians. I am amazed by their height, and the cheer they bring to this marginal space between the sidewalk and street in Sendagaya. They are much taller now than just a few weeks ago.
I love this post – ‘reminds’ me of Tokyo 30 years from now….the overgrown/semi-rural feel is something I’ve been noticing in the suburb where I live. We’ve had a lot of big-box developments pop up lately (electronics stores, food courts etc) but the landscaping is half planned/half overrun with volunteers, weeds, tall grasses and wildflowers….
Those are seriously tall!
I wonder if they use anything to make them go that big.
