That’s the thing about Tokyo. It’s full of layers, and constantly changing. Some people hold on to old places because it’s their homes, or for speculation. Maybe some hope the real estate prices will regain the heights of the 1980s bubble. Off the main roads, much of Tokyo is still two story structures and narrow lanes.

I know this reflects my own ignorance, but usually when I think about Tokyo I think of thse large apartment blocs. What I like about this post and the last post are the small scale housing units. They are very “heimisch.”

I love the shot of the urban riverwalk. It’s a stark contrast to Tokyo’s buried, polluted, and neglected rivers. Though it does not quite compare to the riverwalk in Reno which includes lots of actual living landscaping and a fair amount of actual swimming.
